POLiS PI Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Schabel awarded with the Tallmadge Award 2024

The Tallmadge Award recognizes an individual's significant contributions to coating technology and scientific and honors international outstanding individuals awarded bi-annually by the International Society of Coating Science and Technology (ISCST) and American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AICHE).

The Tallmadge Award 2024 was presented with a laudation by the President of the ISCST Dr. Ted Lightfoot at the 22nd ISCST Symposium in Atlanta on the 10. September 2024. 

From the Tallmadge Laudation speech of the ISCST president (Ted Lightfoot):

“…. The Tallmadge Award is considered to be the highest ranked award in Coating Science and it is always a tough decision of the Tallmadge Award Committee and I believe this year it was an incredible tough decision between all the excellent nominated international Scientists and we decided that the winner is Professor Wilhelm Schabel from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. [...]This years winner, Professor Schabel succeeded to build up probably the world leading “Center of Excellence in Drying Technology and broaden this to an “Excellence in Coating Technology”, combined in a “Thin Fim Technology” Professorship. [...]"

From the acceptance speech of the awardee (Wilhelm Schabel):

"This is a great honor and I want to express my gratitude to be now part of this famous list of Tallmadge awardees, all those great names of scientists from famous books and publications I know and have admired since I was a student […] Thank you to my colleague Philip Scharfer and the whole Thin Film Technology (TFT) team for our international acknowledged research in the last 15 years since we started TFT in 2009. I would like to thank the ISCST Tallmadge Award Committee and my international supporters form Switzerland/Fribourg (Prof. G. Gugler), England/Univ. Cambridge (Prof. A. Routh), Germany/FAU Erlangen (Prof. F. Durst) & Ludwigshafen/BASF (Prof. Kleine-Jäger) and from Canada/Western University (Prof. A. Hrymak)."
